While growth stocks have significantly outperformed value stocks over the past decade, value stocks are currently outpacing growth stocks by their widest margin in over 20 years during the first two-and-a-half months of the year. As of the end of last week, the Russell 1000 Value Index is up 11.3% year to date, with its Russell 1000 Growth counterpart lagging considerably in posting a -0.2% return on the year.1 Not since the end of 2006, the tail end of a 7-year run, have value stocks outperformed for any meaningful time-period.2 From that point, growth stocks have more than quintupled while value stocks have slightly more than doubled.
